Seat Bracket failure cause behind Cliffhanger Closure
The much-anticipated roller coaster at Ghost Town opened amid fanfare last week, then was promptly shut down again. The coaster is one of the primary attractions at the mountaintop amusement park in Maggie Valley, but has been plagued by a series of glitches in the two years since the park opened under new ownership. The new owners pledged to breathe life into the 1960s-era amusement park, including rebuilding the coaster that had been shut down due to safety issues under the former owner.
Southern Star Amusement begins vendor qualification program
Southern Star Amusement, Inc., which has been pursuing the opportunity to take over the former Six Flags amusement park property in New Orleans, is continuing to move forward with their efforts. Danny Rogers, founder of the company, and long time amusement park veteran, stated, “As we have previously discussed with various city officials and area civic leaders, we wish to actively include the community in our rebuilding efforts.”

Former pilots on Walt Disney World's monorail system say investigators probing a fatal weekend crash will likely find that multiple errors ultimately contributed to the accident, which killed a 21-year-old worker from Kissimmee. The reason: The procedure for transferring trains from one line to another -- which is believed to be at the heart of the 2 a.m. Sunday accident -- requires a series of steps and communications between employees, more than one of which would likely have had to go wrong for the two trains to collide.

Walt Disney World monorail crash kills conductor, no passengers were hurt
Two monorail trains smashed into each other at Walt Disney World in Orlando early Sunday morning, killing one conductor and injuring the other. A Walt Disney World spokesman said the crash happened at about 2 a.m. Sunday on the monorail's last run of the day. The trains were carrying only five passengers and two employees, none of whom were hurt.
